DescriptionTechnical description: Brass, single coil; loosely assembled and bound together by cord, with a wooden spacing block; plain ball without groove; rings on insides of both bows; distal bow not wired to bell. When assembled, the distal end of the first yard is inserted 29mm into the first bow ferrule; the distal end of the first bow is inserted 27mm into the second yard ferrule; the distal end of the second yard is inserted 23.5mm into the second bow ferrule. The second bow is inserted and apparently soldered into a ferrule attached to the bell section. Overall size: 699; bell 120. Sounding length: 2130. Bore: mouthpipe minimum 11.2; at 1065mm from bell end, c 10.3; at c 265mm from bell end, 16.0; at 16.2mm from bell end, 69.5. B = 0.78. Bell cutoff = 1400 Hz. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 11.7 - 11.1. Repair History: Mouthpipe yard of modern tubing, not hand made, and longer than the original. Garland has been put back on covering wire holes. Inscribed on bell garland "IOSEPH HUSCHAUER / 17 IN WIEN 94". Decorative features: Embossed bell garland, decorated at edge; ball at start of bell section. Performance characteristics: Excellent classical period sound, capable of both grandeur and delicacy. The input impedance and harmonicity of the air-column resonances are reported in Myers and Campbell 2006. Usable pitch: Plays 30 cents above A⁴ = 440 Hz with mouthpiece (3204).
