DescriptionTechnical description: Scottish square pianoforte. Compass 68 notes, F₁ - C₇ [FF - c'''']. Bichord stringing throughout, the lowest seven double strings F₁-E₂ overspun. One pedal releases the dampers which operate from below the strings.
Signature/Marks: Inscribed on nameboard "ANDREW ROCHEAD AND SON/ Greenside Place Leith Walk / Edinburgh".
Decoration: The case is of mahogany edged with satinwood banding and stringing. The mahogany cross-banded keyboard surround has two fretwork panels veneered in satinwood and backed with silk. The natural keys are of ivory with moulded boxwood fronts; the accidentals are of ebony.
Repair History: Restored by Christopher Clarke in 1972 with later work by John Raymond in 2000. |
