Cup volume 7702; shape quotient 1.192. Overall size: length 77.8; external diameter 38.1. Sounding length: cup depth c 29. Bore: cup diameter 25.3; minimum diameter 6.7 at c 31. Depth of taper: shank depth 32. Diameter of taper: maximum 11.8; minimum 10.7. Stamped on side of cup "HIGHAM MODEL". Specific usage history: Found by donor by metal detection at Thurber, Texas, once a 'boom town'. From the late 1880s to the early 1900s Thurber was a prosperous coal mining and brick making town whose population was at maximum around 20,000. The donor wrote that at many weekends and on festive occasions, bands from all sections of the community performed at the town square. When the economy declined, nearly all the residents relocated; Thurber is now only a shell of its former self. |
