According to the firm's archives [instruments books], the instrument was "Bb Euphonion Orpheon 4V compg class A" made by Ungelenk in a batch of 1. Technical description: euphonium bore profile. Silver-plated brass; water-key on m.t.s.; the valve bottom caps have D.J. Blaikley's patent water reservoir; fitting for music card holder and loop for sling. Valve type: 4 Périnet valves, bottom sprung; alignment by key on piston. Overall size: 688; bell 267. Bore: mouthpipe at c 53mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 12.2; centre of 3 valve cluster at c 271mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (1,2,3) 14.7; centre of 4th valve at c 551mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (4) 15.5; m.t.s. at c 551mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 15.5; m.t.s. at c 816mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 18.2. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 13.0 - 12.1. Stamped on bell "CLASS. A" / "TRADEMARK" and "BOOSEY" within trumpet and banner trademark / "PATENT / COMPENSATING PISTONS / BOOSEY & Co. / MAKERS / 295 REGENT STt / LONDON / 35855"; engraved on bell "ORPHEON / BASS / Bb"; stamped on valve top caps and side of valve casings "7", "8", "9"; on side of 2nd valve casing "TRADEMARK"and "BOOSEY" within trumpet and banner trademark / "PATENT / 32152"; on valve bottom caps "PATENT" and "7", "8", "9". Purchased by lender with and probably used by previous owner with euphonium mouthpiece (4508).
