DescriptionTechnical description: Rosewood, with german silver ferrules. Five pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, upper section, lower section, bell. Mouthpiece grooved for cord, table full-length, for a broad reed (14mm wide at tip). Barrel squat. Upper and lower section: no keys, but six finger-holes and thumb-hole. Bell discontinuous with a german silver rim. Workmanship similar that of clarinet (84) though it lacks the key-swelling of that instrument. On stand with other demonstration instruments: 13-key clarinet in C (84), piccolos (6) and (7), flutes (40) and (756), demonstration pipe (489). Specific usage history: Together with associated instruments, used as a teaching aid in the Music Faculty of Edinburgh Univesity; demonstration instrument to be compared with 13-key clarinet in C (84). |
