Master crook overall air column length 1254. Bore: Mouthpipe (crook) 7.5. Bell wall angle at D=100mm, 21.5. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t of crook (2887a) 8.0 at end; external taper of crook (2887a) 11.2 11.8. Crook/coupler receiver taper on body 12.1 11.7. Technical description: 2½ coils excluding crooks; angle between axis of mouthpipe / crook receiver and axis of bell 139; yellow brass. Metal construction: ovelapping joint between proximal and bell segments; bell longitudinally seamed with single gusset; plain garland, width 30. Terminally crooked; crook receiver reinforced with ferrule. Master crook (2887a) with three coils, diameter 145, sounding in G; the longer master crook of twin master crooks and multiple coupler set. No inscriptions. Lacks one master crook and several couplers; mouthpiece receiver on master crook dented. Dented bell segment and broken stay repaired, 1991. General usage of type: Orchestral. Usable pitch: Plays 10 cents above A4 = 415 Hz with G crook. Performance characteristics: Speaks easily and plays well in tune. Associated with horn (2888) as a matched mirror pair.
