DescriptionAccording to the firm's archives [instruments books], the instrument was model A54, made in a batch of one.
Technical description: Silver-plated brass; plated stockings. Two tuning-slides (upper bow and foot of main slide); extra stay on main slide above its tuning-slide. No water-key. Weight of outer slide 173 g. Repair History: Patches on main outer slide, bell pipe and upper tuning-slide. Upper tuning-slide possibly not original.
Overall size: 814; bell 141.
Sounding length: minimum 1964.
Bore: at c 20mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore), 10.85; descending main slide 11.5; ascending main slide 11.5; tuning slide in upper bow 11.75 - 14.75; at c 370mm from bell, 16.3; at 21.2mm from bell, 88.6. B = 0.74. Bell cutoff = 1000 Hz.
Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 11.7 - 10.85.
Inscribed "Case's System / Class A / TRADE MARK / DISTIN / BOOSEY & CO. / MAKERS / 295 REGENT STREET / LONDON / 31451" with trumpet & banner trademark.
Embellished ferrule at mouthpipe.
Usable pitch: Plays at A⁴ = 440 Hz with mouthpiece (2825); the two tuning-slides allow lowering of pitch up to 100 cents; probably made for use at Old Philharmonic pitch with a small mouthpiece.
