DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood; with ivory ferrules (flanged on barrel, arched on lower section and bell) and (wide) bell-rim; brass keywork.
Five pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, upper section, lower section, bell. Barrel slightly parabolic.
Upper section: throat A♭ key short-tailed (Continental). Speaker liner projects c 4mm into bore.
Lower section: no thumb rest.
L0: T; speaker.
L1: T; throat A♮; throat A♭.
L2: T.
L3: T; E♭₄/B♭₅.
L4: C♯₄/G♯₅; E₃/B♮₄; F♯₃/C♯₅.
R1: T; side F₄/C₆; side trill key for throat A-B♮.
R2: T.
R3: T; B♭₃/F♮₅; side B♮₃/F♯₅.
R4: F₃/C₅ hinge key; G♯₃/E♭₅.
Keymount type: pillars.
Keyhead type: saltspoon.
All parts stamped "BUFFET / PARIS"
Bell-rim chipped. Keys corroded. Mouthpiece missing.
Repair History: The whole of the woodwork is covered with criss-cross scratches as if a wire brush had been used to remove an earlier coat of paint or varnish: traces of a black substance can be seen at the bases of most of the pillars. |
