DescriptionTechnical description: silver-plated brass; water-key and fitting for music card holder. Hutchison patent slides. According to the firm's archives [instruments books], the instrument was model A55a, made in a batch of six. Overall size: 1113; bell 151. Bore: at c 30mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 11.3; descending slide 11.3, ascending slide 11.3; m.t.s. 12.3 - 13.2. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 12.0 - 11.4. Inscribed on bell "Perfecta Truline / CLASS A" / trumpet and banner emblem with "TRADE MARK" and "BOOSEY" / "BOOSEY & CO. LTD. / MAKERS. LONDON / 129482 / British Throughout"; on slide section at joint "BOOSEY & Co. / 129482". Decorative features: embossed embellishment on ferrules and ends of stays. General literature references: G.B. Patent Specification 256761 accepted 19 Aug 1926, Joseph Hutchison of Paisley. Joseph Hutchison of Paisley patented in 1926 a low friction trombone slide. Instead of the bearing surfaces being at one end of the inner slides (the stockings), bearing surfaces with smaller area were provided at both the top of the outer slide and the bottom of the inner slide. As a result, as the hand slide is drawn in, the inner and outer remain strictly parallel. This model was produced by Boosey & Co and Boosey & Hawkes in the late 1920s and early 1930s. According to the B&H catalogue of the very early 1930s (author's collection), Models BB43 and BB48 were the "Perfecta Truline" tenor and bass slide trombones, "With stocking each end of the Slide, giving perfect alignment the entire length of the slide."
