According to the firm's archives [instrument books], the instrument was "Bb Cornet HP" Model LA6 made by Bauwens in a batch of 12. Overall size: 326; bell 120. Bore: instrument body at c 30mm from shank/crook receiver (local minimum bore) 10.3; m.t.s. at c 304mm from shank/crook receiver, tuning slide bore 11.7; all three v.t.s. (3,2,1) 11.7. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: Shank/crook receiver taper 11.8 10.8. Technical description: Silver-plated brass. With 2 main tuning-slides. Leadpipe enters 3rd valve casing at the right; 3rd valve loop leaves from 15° left of front and returns to 15° left of front; 1st valve loop leaves from right and returns to 15° right of back. bellpipe exits 1st valve casing at 15° left of back. With single water-key; fitting for music card holder. Valve type: 3 Périnet valves, top-sprung by tension spring inside tubular upper stem; alignment by unequal lugs on spring plate. Bar type key pressing valve tension spring. Sprung from pistons to key bar. Repair History: Old Philharmonic pitch, converted to low pitch; 1st and 3rd valves extended for low pitch; this is done by loose rings and is therefore reversible. Inscribed on bell "N.V.A." / hawk-and-trumpet trademark / "Boosey & Hawkes / Ltd / Makers / 295 Regent St / London. W1 / 150243"; on side of valve casings and inner stems, and on bottom caps "172", "173", "174"; on side of 2nd valve casing " 116 819 / PATENT 193729". Playing accessories: Music card holder (broken at foot). Shank missing. Lugs on 2nd and 3rd valves missing. Old Philharmonic pitch, converted to low pitch; 1st and 3rd valves extended for low pitch; this is done by loose rings and is therefore reversible.
