DescriptionOverall size: corpus diameter 380; bell diameter 238. Sounding length: segment lengths: mouthpipe 160; intermediate segments 453, 718, 1192, 870; bell segment 874. Bore: 33.5mm from bell end, 120. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 7.7 at end. Technical description: 3½ coils; copper with yellow brass mouthpipe and bell garland. Metal construction: mouthpipe, 4 intermediate segments and bell, ovelapping joints; all tubing probably seamed; gusseted bell, garland width 38. Inscribed on bell garland "NICHOLAS WINKINGS / MAKER IN REDLYON / STREET HOLBORN / LONDON". Surface tarnished to overall patina with mouthpiece (2628) inserted. Usable pitch: With associated mouthpiece plays in Eb 20 30 cents below A4 = 440 Hz, possibly in E_ at original pitch standard. Performance characteristics: Plays well from 2nd 16th natural notes with flat 11th giving good unstopped F.
