DescriptionTechnical description: The round, concave, pernambuco stick has `whalebone' lapping with metal thread winding and ends in a modern head with an ivory headface. The screw-mechanism, squared, ebony frog has a nickel ferrule with a wooden ferrule wedge, a nickel underslide, a metal heelplate, decorative eye rings of ivory, decorative eyes of mother-of-pearl, and a mother-of-pearl slide. The ebony button has metal rings, has a mother-of-pearl button eye, and is octagonal with a rim. Measurements: Weight: 63g. Hair length: 643mm. Balance point: 276mm. Head height: 24.5mm. Head width:10.05mm. Face length: 23.7mm. Tip diameter: 7.2mm. Frog diameter: 9.1mm (measured at 200mm to avoid lapping). Nipple range: 0.3 to 0.5. Period of oscillation: 1.38. Distance from pivot to tail: 71.7 mm. Button length: 15.8mm. Ferrule width: 13.3mm. Frog + stick height: 27.2mm. Frog top length: 45.0mm. The underslide is loose and only held in place by the screw eye. Associated by pre-1969 labelling with violin (324) and bow (317). Current ownership: Gift of E.D. Wilson of Edinburgh, 1967.
