DescriptionTechnical description: Cocus; 4 sections plus 2 extra upper body sections (corps-de-rechange); silver keys and keymounts; 5 ivory ferrules; wooden cap with ivory disc inlaid; small oval embouchure-hole; small left-hand finger-holes; cork under keytouches; G♯ key-hole on nearside of body, with C keyshank arched to curve over G♯ keyshank. With corps 1 or 2, L0: @I{B♭. L1: @I{T. L1: @I{T. L2: @I{T. L2: @I{T. L3: @I{T. L3: @I{T. L4: @I{G♯. R0:, R0:, R1: @I{T. R1: @I{T; C. R2: @I{T. R2: @I{T. R3: @I{T; F. R3: @I{T; F. R4: @I{D♯. With corps 3, R4: @I{D♯. Keymount type: rod/pillar, with crescent, oval and extended rectangle base plates screwed into wood. Keyhead type: thin flat round, curved to fit around body of instrument, with shank extending in a V onto the keyhead; foot keyhead large, slightly rounded rectangle attached by rotating screw in loops on top of the keyhead to a small disc at the end of the keyshank (for accuracy of pad-seating on the large key-hole beneath); each keyshank has decorative detail; leaf springs. Repair History: Head cracks sealed and pinned. Overall size: 633mm with corps 1; 626mm with corps 2; 621mm with corps 3 Sounding length: embouchure to foot: 546mm with corps 1; 539mm with corps 2; 534mm with corps 3 Bore: conical Stamped with crown and "ADLER / [RUE] MANDAR / A PARIS" / 5 pointed star; the upper bodies are also stamped "1", "2" and "3" respectively; on 1 and 2 the inscription is highlighted in gold paint, but on 3 and the other parts of the flute the gold has worn off the inscriptions, suggesting heavier usage. Performance characteristics: Range D⁴ - A⁶; speaks easily throughout with strong resonant sound, except A⁶ which is difficult with corps 3; mechanism in good condition. Usable pitch: With corps 1 A⁴ = c 427 Hz; with corps 2 A⁴ = c 433 Hz; with corps 3 A⁴ = c 440 Hz. |
