Other InformationGeneral usage of type: According to G. Fischer (Gautrot Aîné, 1867), the purpose of the 4th valve was to extend the compass. The principle of the `instruments système équitonique' patented in France by Gautrot in 1858 is exactly the same as the principle of `compensating pistons', patented in Britain by D.J. Blaikley in 1878. |
