DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood with ivory ferrules and brass keys. Six pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, upper section, middle section for the fingers of the right hand, lower section with keys, bell. Mouthpiece: Contemporary, dark wood, with long tenon; with 13 grooves for cord; slight shoulder above tenon. Length 93mm; table 43.4mm; wind cut 30mm. Barrel: waisted; bored full length to take the long tenon of the mouthpiece. Upper section: speaker liner projects c 4mm into bore. Middle section: Wide ivory ferrule, no thumb rest. Lower section: levers for L4, tone-hole and key for R4 mounted in a bell-shaped swelling. Bell discontinuous. Bore is metal lined (`Patent' in inscription may refer to this). L0: T; speaker. L1: T; throat A♮. L2: T. L3: T. L4: E₃/B♮₄; zig-zag F♯₃/C♯₅. R1: T; trill key for throat A-B♮. R2: T; R3: T. R4: T; G♯₃/E♭₅. Keymount type: blocks, swelling, leaf springs. Keyhead type: flat square. Bell and barrel stamped "CLEMENTI & COMPY / LONDON" (on the barrel the word "LONDON" slants, on the bell it is level); top, middle and lower sections stamped "PATENT / CLEMENTI & COMPY". Mouthpiece stamped on lay (reed) side "I. WOOD FECIT". Bell rim missing. |
