Description3-valve compensating. According to the firm's archives [instruments books], the instrument was "BBb Contrabass", Model A95a, made by Brooks in a batch of 2. Technical description: silver-plated brass. 3-valve compensating system: 3rd valve brings loop into windway which passes through 1st and 2nd valves, these have short additional loops which are brought into the windway when used in combination with the third valve. Water-keys on 1st v.t.s. and m.t.s. Fitting for music card holder; two loops for sling. Valve type: 3 Périnet valves, bottom sprung; alignment by key on piston. Repair History: Replated by Mayers & Harrison, 1962. Overall size: 1026; bell 408. Sounding length: minimum 5141. Bore: mouthpipe at c 68mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 11.83; centre of valve cluster at c 435mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (1,2,3) 17.4; m.t.s. at c 707mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bores 19.6 22.8; at 2571mm from bell end, c 44.3; at c 1852mm from bell end, 62.65. B = 0.29. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 13.5 - 12.8. Inscribed on bell "Imperial Model / ``SOLBRON'' / (REGISTERED) / CLASS A" / trumpet and banner trademark with "TRADE MARK" and "BOOSEY" / "COMPENSATING PISTONS / BOOSEY & CO. / MAKERS. LONDON / 121807 / British Throughout"; on side of 2nd valve casing "94530" / diamond shaped trademark containing letters "P", "C", "G", "S" and pattern of 13 circles / "TRADE" "MARK"; on side of valve casings "64", "65", "66". Decorative features: floral embellishment around inscription on bell. With fitted hard case, covered in black leathercloth; inscription on golden plastic fabric under lid: "Mayers & Harrison Ltd. / MUSICAL INSTRUMENT MAKERS / GREAT JACKSON STREET / MANCHESTER 15".
