Description

Technical description: Rosewood with german silver ferrules and keywork. Four pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, one-piece body, bell. Original named cocus wood mouthpiece marked for a ligature. Curved speaker with chimney on front of the instrument. Variation of Carte's 1858 patent in order to give an in-tune throat register. RH fingering like simple system, but with articulated C♯₄/G♯₅ (opened by L4 key, closed by R1 ring). LH fingering based on moving the thumb-hole to the front of the instrument. No keys depressed will give a throat G. Using the second R1 side key will give F♯, with R1 closed F. No keys depressed and only L3 closed will give throat A via correspondence; with R1 tone-hole closed it will give throat A♭. L3 closed with activated speaker will give B♭. The top R1 lever is a trill key. C sharp mechanism. 11 keys, 6 rings, 8 ebonite rollers. L0: Speaker. L1: T + ring + vents. L2: T + ring + vents. L3: T + ring + vents + correspondence; cross E♭₄/B♭₅. L4: C♯₄/G♯₅; E₃/B♮₄; F♯₃/C♯₅. R1: T + ring + vent; side E♭₄/B♭₅; side F₄/C₆ respectively F♯₄/C♯₆; side trill key for throat A-B♮ and B♭-C. R2: T + spectacle. R3: T + spectacle (forked B♭₃/F♮₅); cross B♭₃/F♮₅. R4: G♯₃/E♭₅; F₃/C₅. Keymount type: screwed in pillars. Keyhead type: modern. Playing accessories: reed, ligature.
