DescriptionTechnical description: Brass. Circular form with upturned bell. Leadpipe enters 3rd valve casing at 15° left of front; 3rd valve loop leaves from right and returns to right; bellpipe exits 1st valve casing at the back. main tuning-slide placed between 1st valve and bell. No water-key. With crook for F only. Valve type: 3 Périnet valves, bottom-sprung; alignment by key on casing and slot on piston. Maker: C. Boosé. London. Ante 1868, probably c 1860. Serial number: 3222. Overall size: 335; bell 124. Sounding length: crook overall air column length (single coil) 526. Bore: crook at c 30mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 8.4; crook at distal end, 10.2; instrument body at c 30mm from shank/crook receiver (local minimum bore) 8.7; v.t.s. at c 292mm from shank/crook receiver, valve tuning slide bore 11.0; v.t.s. (3,2,1), m.t.s. 11.0. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: crook internal taper 9.0 8.5, external taper 11.1 11.9; shank/crook receiver taper 11.9 10.6. Inscribed on bell "PATENT / C. BOOSE. / 28 HOLLES ST. / LONDON / 3222". Shank for Bb and other shanks and crooks missing; touch piece of 2nd valve missing.
