DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood with ivory ferrules and brass keywork. Five pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, upper section, lower section, bell. Original blackwood mouthpiece with a long tenon and a short table grooved for cord with 9 grooves. Barrel highly waisted, with two ivory ferrules. Upper section: straight speaker, speaker liner projects c 5mm into bore. Lower section: Wide ivory ferrule on top, no thumb rest. Levers for L4, tone-hole and key for R4 mounted in a bell-shaped swelling. L0: T; speaker. L1: T; throat A♮. L2: T. L3: T. L4: E₃/B♮₄; zig-zag F♯₃/C♯₅. R1: T; trill key for throat A-B♮. R2: T; R3: T. R4: T; G♯₃/E♭₅. Keymount type: blocks; L4 and R4 keys in bell-shaped swelling. Keyhead type: square flat. Ivory rim of bell missing. Stamped on barrel, upper and lower section "Wood & Ivy"; stamped on bell "Wood and Ivy / LATE / Geoe Wood / NEW COMPTON STRT / 50 / SOHO / LONDON"/ lily. Mouthpiece stamped on reed side, "Geo. Wood". Usable pitch: A₄ = c 440 Hz. |
