DescriptionTechnical description: Silver-plated brass, tubing bow over valves. The windway leads to the 1st valve; if the 1st valve is not operated, thence via the 2nd and 3rd valves and back via the 1st valve to the bell; if the 1st valve is operated, then via different passages through the 2nd and 3rd valves with longer valve loops and back via the 1st valve to the bell. The longer 2nd valve loop has no tuning-slide. Despite the inscription, the valve system is not compensating but `full double', virtually the same as the Besson & Co `Enharmonic Patent' of 1904. With water-key on main tuning-slide. Fitting for music card-holder. Valve type: 3 Périnet-type valves, bottom sprung; alignment by key on piston. Repair History: Converted to low pitch by extension of the main tuning-slide. Serial number: instrument 48719; valves 41228. According to the firm's archives [instruments books], the instrument was "Eb Tenor", Model A48 made by Bloomfield in a batch of 4. Overall size: 488; bell 178. Sounding length: minimum 2038. Bore: mouthpipe at c 47mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 10.2; centre of valve cluster at c 271mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (1,2,3) 11.7; m.t.s. at c 477mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 12.6; m.t.s. at c 743mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 13.2; at 1019mm from bell end, c 15.3; at c 550mm from bell end, 21.6. B = 0.59. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 11.2 10.4. Stamped on bell "CLASS. A" / trumpet and banner trademark incorporating "TRADEMARK" and "BOOSEY" / "PATENT / COMPENSATING PISTONS / BOOSEY & CO. / MAKERS / 295 REGENT STT. / LONDON / 48719"; on front of 3rd valve casing "3" on front of 2nd valve casing at top "2" and at bottom "PATENT" / diamond shaped trademark containing letters "P", "C", "G", "S" and pattern of 13 circles / "TRADE" "MARK" / 41228; on front of 1st valve casing "1"). Decorative features: floral embellishment around inscription on bell. |
