3 valves. Technical description: Brass. Shank for F and crook for E♭. Valve type: 3 Périnet valves; bottom sprung; plated pistons. Inscribed "C. MAHILLON & CO. / LONDON". Inscribed on side of 2nd valve casing "3534". Performance characteristics: Plays well up to 12th natural note. The input impedance and harmonicity of the air-column resonances are reported in Myers and Campbell 2006. Usable pitch: Old Philharmonic pitch; main tuning-slide insufficient to allow use at A⁴ = 439. Purchased by lender with and possibly formerly used with mouthpiece (2495). Specific usage history: Used by C. Steele-Perkins c 1994 to c 1997. Overall size: 552; bell 111. Sounding length: instrument with shank for F, minimum 1722; F shank overall air column length 102; Eb crook overall air column length 325. Bore: F shank at c 20mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore), 10.8; centre of valve cluster at c 284mm from mouthpiece receiver with F shank, v.t.s. bore (1,2,3) 10.8; at 861mm from bell end, 10.8; m.t.s. at c 1062mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bores 10.8 - 11.9; c 273mm from bell end, 15.3; at 15.0mm from bell end, 67.4. B = 0.79. Bell cutoff = 1500 Hz. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: taper on instrument body to receive crooks, bits or mouthpiece 13.0 - 12.1; F shank internal taper 10.9-10.8 (hardly tapered), external taper 12.2 - 13.1; Eb crook internal taper 11.0 (not tapered), external taper 12.0 - 13.0.
