This instrument is a rather bad quality violin for the amateur market. Its soundboard is made of spruce; its back, ribs, endbutton, neck and scroll are made of sycamore; its pegs, fingerboard, tailpiece, and tail-gut protector are made of ebony. The f-holes are crudely-cut and have 2 nicks on each side. The lower bouts are covered by a single rib. The back is made from two pieces of wood, lightly figured. The front has inked purfling, but there is none in the back. The entire instrument is covered with a brown varnish. The neck is mostly horizontal and has a small (3mm) wedge. The tailpiece is decorated with a floral design. Neck length 129mm; fingerboard length 272mm, 21.9mm wide at nut, 42.8mm wide at bottom. Arch of soundboard 12mm; back arch 15mm.
Repair History: Damage has been caused by clamps that have been used to repair the instrument. The neck has been broken and repaired with a large screw. There are also repairs to the scroll on either side by the D and A pegs.
