Technical description: Rosewood, in two sections with the break between holes VI and VII. There is a raised ring at the socket of the lower section. The bell is externally bulbous but internally is a simple flare. There is a thumb-hole at the back and seven finger holes in the front. The bell can be turned to adjust the position of hole VII according to the length of the finger. There are two vent-holes in the bell above the bulbous section.
There are some small chips from the turning around the reed well.
Usable pitch: Diapason Normal.
Performance characteristics: Difficult intonation and uningratiating tone quality. Notes above fingered D₅ (sounding G₅) impossible to obtain.
Current ownership: Purchased in 1983 with assistance from the Government's Local Museums Purchase Fund and the University's General Council Trust.
