DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood; no ferrules but wood is made thicker at the sockets; brass key-work. Four pieces: mouthpiece [missing and replaced by one of G. Miller which combines mouthpiece and barrel], upper section, middle section for the fingers of the right hand, lower section with keys and bell in one piece.Mouthpiece/barrel boxwood, long narrow table (56 long, 12 at tip, 11 at base), tapered aperture (28 long, 10 at tip, 6 at base), grooved for cord, stamped on reed side. `Barrel' not waisted, but swells near lower end, with wide ivory ferrule.Upper section key rings of rounded rectangular shape. Speaker square head, spatulate touch. Speaker liner projects almost to the centre of bore. A♮, trapezoidal head, narrow touch. A♮/B♮ trill, in long brass saddle, (an addition; the ring-mount of the speaker has been cut away to make room for its head and seating).Middle section: ring of rounded rectangular shape, no thumb rest.Lower section: Levers for L4, tone-hole and key for R4 mounted in a fusiform swelling. B♮ bascule, octagonal head, tapered shank, curved touch; C♯, head as A♮, tapered shank, broad touch.G♯₃/E♭₅, square head; F₃/C♮₅ finger-hole much undercut. No rim to bell; ornamental turned `ring' simulates joint: L0: T; straight speaker. L1: T: A♮. L2: T. L3: T. L4: E♮₃/B♮₄; F♯₃/C♯₅. R1: T; A♮/B♮ trill. R2: T. R3: T. R4: G♯₃/E♭₅. Keyhead type: flat, but see above. Keymount type: turned rings; saddle; swelling; SATK. With leather bag. Mouthpiece and barrel are a replacement; the sixth key is an early addition.
