DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood; 5 sections; silver keys except B♭ key (german silver); 5 ivory ferrules plus cap; graduated, wood-covered tuning-slide; graduated screw-stopper; metal-lined head; large oval embouchure-hole; overlapping low C/C♯ touches; G♯ keytouch stands very high. Keymount type: ring/knob. Keyhead type: pewter plug except B♭ key (flat round); metal-lined key-holes. Repair History: B♭ key is a replacement; embouchure-hole and left hand finger-holes appear to have been enlarged. Overall size: 664mm Sounding length: embouchure to foot, 593mm Bore: conical Performance characteristics: [Original range C⁴ - B⁶]. Notes up to and including E⁴ do not speak at present, because F key leaking. Usable pitch: On 6, A⁴ c 460 Hz. Stamped "POTTER / JOHNSON'S COURT / FLEET STREET / LONDON", with "PATENT" on head ferrule and foot; tuning gradations stamped "4", "5" and "6" on tuning-slide and "6" on screw. |
