Description5 valves. According to the firm's archives [Besson stock books], the instrument was "Basse SIb à 5 Cl.1" and was in a batch of 6 and was numbered no later than 3 Oct 1891. Technical description: Silver-plated brass. The normal British 5-valve tuning arrangement, the 4th valve lowers by 5 semitones, the 5th valve by 1 semitone. Valve type: 5 Périnet valves. Overall size: 675; bell 248. Bore: m.t.s. 14.0 - 14.4, v.t.s. (1,2,3) 14.4, v.t.s. (4,5) 15.6. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 12.6 - 11.8. Inscribed on bell "50 MEDALS OF HONOUR" within banner / monogram FB / "F. BESSON / Prototype / 198 EUSTON ROAD / LONDON" / five pointed star; on valve top caps and sides of stems and casings "7", "8", "9", "1", "2"; on side of 1st valve casing "F.
