DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood with ivory ferrules and brass keys. Five pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, upper section, lower section, bell. Barrel expands over socket but only slightly waisted. Upper section: F₄/C₆ side key and throat A♭ side key in saddles. Touches of side A♭₄, side F₄/C♮₆ and shake key curve forwards. Speaker liner projects c 5mm into bore. Lower section: No thumb rest. Levers for L4, tone-hole and key for R4 mounted in a bell-shaped swelling. Bell discontinuous, with ivory rim. All key-holes lined with brass; all tenons lapped with cork. L0: T; straight speaker. L1: T; throat A♮. L2: T; throat A♭. L3: T; cross e♭₄/B♭₅. L4: cross C♯₄/G♯₅; bascule E₃/B♮₄; straight side F♯₃/C♯₅. R1: T; throat trill A♮-B♮; side F₄/C♮₆. R2: T; cross B♮₃/F♯₅. R3: T; cross B♭₃/F♮₅. R4: T; straight G♯₃/E♭₅. Keyhead type: round flat. Keymount type: A♭ and C♮ keys in saddles; others are blocks; swelling. With boxwood cap, with cut-away for reed; has crack c 35mm and groove to take a metal band. Tenon to barrel has been replaced. Hair crack at the top of upper section has been repaired with a diagonal brass pin. With additional replacement mouthpiece by Brian Ackerman, London. Current ownership: Lent by J.B. Dick. |
