DescriptionThis instrument is the earliest clarinet in the collection. It is made of boxwood with brass keys. The ferrules are turned out of the wood. It is in three pieces: the mouthpiece with integral barrel (not original), the body (the upper section of which has a minor but lengthy crack) and the bell (which contains the F3/C5 tone-hole) with flaring bore. The keyhead type is flat and square; the keymounts are needle pins in turned wooden rings. There are no maker’s inscriptions or marks. Technical description: Boxwood with brass keys. Ferrules turned out of the wood. Three pieces: mouthpiece with integral barrel, body and bell with F₃/C₅ tone-hole. 2 keys. Speaker liner projects almost in the centre of the bore. SATW.
