DescriptionTechnical description: Cocus wood with german silver crooks, bell and keywork. Five pieces: mouthpiece, crook [missing], upper section, lower section, upright bell. Basic Oehler keywork, no C sharp mechanism. Throat B♭ automatic operating from throat A key: Speaker key operates two key-heads. Only the upper one opens when used to overblow. Depressed with throat A key the upper key head closes and the lower opens in order to give an in-tune throat B♭. Upper speaker key with a chimney. Speaker liner projects into centre of the bore. Thumb-hole key end-pivoted from below. L1 tone-hole covered by a plate with a pinhole for throat register. L2 `Donut'-key for the same reason. All other tone-holes covered. No side vents on lower section. L0 levers for E♭ and D. Thumb rest with a sling ring. Large bevelled vent hole on the bottom of lower section. 16 keys, 7 covered tone-holes, 4 brown ebonite rollers. L0: Plate; speaker. L1: Plate; throat A♮; throat A♭. L2: Plate; alternative cross key for F₄/C₆. L3: Plate; E♭₄/B♭₅. L4: C♯₄/G♯₅; E₃/B♮₄; F♯₃/C♯₅. R0: @I{E♭₃; D₃. R1: Plate; side F₄/ C₆; side E♭₄/B♭₅; side trill for throat A-B♮ and B♭-C. R2: Plate. R3: Plate (forked B♭₃/F♮₅); cross B♭₃/F♮₅. R4: G♯₃/E♭₅; F₃/C₅. Keyhead type: modern. Keymount type: screwed in pillars. Shackleton's notes mention crooks, which are now missing. The mouthpiece is missing. |
