Description

Polished bamboo end-blown notched open flute; slightly oval exterior cross-section; three decorative bands near mouth-hole to strengthen upper end where flute has several longitudinal cracks in it; 4 finger-holes on top, 1 thumb-hole; bore 22mm, diameter 50mm. Overall size: 550mm. Illustration references: Vol. 1 p.21. Specific literature references: probably to be identified with the 'Japanese flute' in Hipkins 1885, p.113.
