DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood; 3 sections; ivory ferrules and dome-shaped ivory mouthpiece; 7 finger-holes plus thumb-hole; lowest finger-hole double; ivory studs to guide fingers; wind-cap. Keyless. One ivory stud at foot missing; slight chip at upper edge of head section; wind-cap split; possibly lacks plug from top finger-hole (hole slightly chipped). Repair History: Wind-cap split bound with thread. Stamped "C. GEROCK / LONDON". Performance characteristics: Based on scale of D with C♯ (and possibly C) below; may originally have had a basic scale of G (three-finger tonic, with plug in top finger-hole); lowest six-finger note sounds D⁵. Usable pitch: Sounding A⁴ = c 435 Hz (c 20 cents below A⁴ = 440 Hz). |
