DescriptionTechnical description: Brass, 3 valves; valves 3 and 1 have two loops from low on the casing to high on the casing, the shorter of the two loops in the windway when the valve is not operated, the longer in the windway when the valve is operated; this design obviates sharp bends in the coquilles. Circular, bell-up wrap. Fitting for music card-holder. Valve type: 3 Périnet-type valves, bottom sprung; alignment by key on piston. Serial number: 773; patent licence number 585. Overall size: perpendicular to bell 493; corpus diameter c 300; bell 231. Sounding length: minimum 2646. Bore: mouthpipe at c 50mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 10.5; centre of valve cluster at c 290mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (2,3,1) 13.8; m.t.s. at c 800mm and at c 920mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 13.8; 1323mm from bell end, c 18.0; c 905mm from bell end, 25.5. B = 0.57. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 12.3 11.8. Inscribed on front of bell: lyre motif flanked by two lions / " BESANÇON / Breveté S.G.D.G / PLACE ST. JEAN 8 / Lyon"; on back of bell "SAXHORN / Baryton / 585" / monogram AS with inscription inside: "AUTORISE / A.C. PARIS"; on sides of valve casings and on top and bottom caps "22", "23", "24"; on side of 2nd valve casing "BESANÇON / BREVETÉ / LYON" all within ellipse / "773".
