DescriptionTechnical description: Silver-plated brass. With intonation slide on 3rd valve tuning-slide with ring for L4. Leadpipe enters 3rd valve casing at the right; 3rd valve loop leaves from 30° left of front and returns to 30° left of front; bellpipe exits 1st valve casing at 45° left of back. With single water-key. Change from B♭ to C effected by placing moving parts of main and auxiliary tuning-slides in alternative positions. When in B♭, the windway runs mouthpipe - main tuning-slide - auxiliary tuning-slide - 3 - 2 - 1 - bell. When in C, the auxiliary tuning-slide forms a closed loop not connected to the windway, which runs mouthpipe - main tuning-slide - 3 - 2 - 1 - bell. Valve type: 3 Périnet valves, top sprung with spring outside stem, alignment by key on piston. Nominal pitch: C/Bb. Maker: Lefevre. Paris. Late 19th century. Serial number: 4331. Bore: instrument body at c 35mm from shank/crook receiver (local minimum bore) 10.3; m.t.s. at c 248mm from shank/crook receiver, tuning slide bore 11.8; v.t.s. bore (3,2,1) 11.8. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: shank/crook receiver taper 11.8 10.9. Valve type: 3 Périnet valves, top sprung with spring outside stem, alignment by key on piston. Inscribed on bell: 5 pointed star / "LEFEVRE / A PARIS" / 5 POINTED STAR / "BREVETÉ" / monogram LF / "148.RUE DU THÉÂTRE"; on side of 2nd valve casing "LEFEVRE / PARIS / BTT. S.G.D.C. / 4331"; on sides of valve casings "4", "5", "6"; on valve stems "1", "2", "3". Valve top caps apparently in incorrect sequence: "1", "3", "2"; bottom caps likewise: "1", "4", "6" (1st valve bottom cap differs slightly from 2nd and 3rd, having straight milled decoration while they have diagonal).
