DescriptionOverall size: length 445 including mouthpiece; bell 159. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 12.4 11.9 (instrument body), 11.7 11.4 (crook). Technical description: Copper, with brass mounts, bell garland and keys. 6 keys. L0:E. L1:F. R0:Eb. R1:D. R3:C#. R4:B. Keyhead type: Flat round. No inscriptions. Decorative features: Bell garland. Playing accessories: With F crook for cornopean, diameter 141 (serving no practical purpose with a keyed bugle). Design and workmanship suggest it could be from the same maker as the bugle. The B key saddle carrying the keyhead pivot is unsoldered from the body of the instrument (the B key saddle carrying the touchpiece remaining in place); the E key touchpiece is broken off near pivot in saddle and missing; the F key saddle is unsoldered from the body of the instrument. Usable pitch: Plays in C at A4 = c 440 Hz. Performance characteristics: Keys missing but instrument well in tune. Allocated with and possibly formerly used with mouthpiece (991). |
