3 valves. Technical description: Brass. Similar in design detail to (1864). With a long main tuning-slide suggesting a possible shorter alternative. Valve type: 3 Périnet valves. Overall size: 735; bell 345. Bore: m.t.s. 15.2 - 16.2, v.t.s. (1,2,3) 16.2. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 13.4 - 13.0. Inscribed on bell "SUPERIOR / CLASS / HAWKES & SON / Denman Street / Piccadilly Circus / LONDON / 45069"; on side of valve casings "1", "2 / HAWKES & SON / LONDON / 6", "3"; on main tuning slide "L.P." twice. Possible high pitch main tuning slide missing. Usable pitch: Plays c 20 cents below A4 = 440 Hz. Purchased with and possibly formerly used with mouthpiece (631). Specific literature references: G.S.
