DescriptionTechnical description: Brass, single coil; joints solid (probably soldered); wooden spacing block, bound in place with cord (red and white, with one tassel); plain ball without groove; rings on insides of both bows; distal bow wired to bell. Longitudinal bell seam soldered oblique dog-tooth, with teeth c 4mm. Overall size: 714; bell 123. Sounding length: 2114; Bb (3772) crook adds 578mm. Bore: minimum (mouthpipe) 10.5; at 1057mm from bell end, c 10.5; at c 290mm from bell end, 14.9; at 36.9mm from bell end, 52.5. B = 0.78 (in D); B = 0.80 (crooked in Bb). Bell cutoff = 1100 Hz. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: Crook receiver taper 11.6 - 11.1. Inscribed on bell garland "I. BAUER IN. PRAG." and "H:Spolec:M:Sads:FV". Stamped on garland with circular Austrian-style crest and date "1818". Split in distal bow, c 30mm. Wooden spacing block a replacement; soldered joints at ferrules probably originally loose. Decorative featues: Embossed bell garland with shell motifs at edge; milled decoration on bell rim and bow rings; ball at start of bell section; ferrules decorated with turned grooves in groups of 2 to 5. Performance characteristics: The input impedance and harmonicity of the air-column resonances are reported in Myers and Campbell 2006. Usable pitch: A⁴ = 440 Hz. Purchased by lender with similar trumpet (3771) and possibly original crook (3772) and crook for keyed trumpet (3773) not original. |
