DescriptionTechnical description: Brass with german silver plain garland, bow guard, ferrules etc. Plain garland. Curved mouthpipe adjustable for angle by ligature fitting. Water-key on main tuning-slide. Valve type: 3 rotary valves with cork buffers on rotors. Repair History: Mouthpipe was replaced prior to acquisition (4 broken parts preserved). 2nd valve tuning-slide bow has been replaced (original bow guard not refitted but preserved). Water-key lever has been replaced by a shorter one and the saddle re-positioned to suit (original lever preserved). Overall size: 1100; bell 365. Sounding length: minimum 5300. Bore: mouthpipe at c 35mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 13.7; centre of valve cluster at c 514mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (1,2,3) 20.4; m.t.s. at c 745mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 20.4; m.t.s. at c 1031mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bores 21.3; 2650mm from bell end, c 33.1; c 2099mm from bell end, 46.8. B = 0.41. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 14.6 - 14.2. No inscriptions. Usable pitch: Plays at c 50 cents above A4 = 440 Hz. Purchased by lender with and possibly formerly used with mouthpiece (2483). |
