Description4 valves compensating. According to the firm's archives [instruments books], the instrument was "Model 4033 H.P. S/P HP Imperial" made in a batch of 12. Technical description: silver-plated brass. 4-valve compensating system. 4th valve brings loop into windway which passes through 1st, 2nd and 3rd valves, these have short additional loops which are brought into the windway when used in combination with the fourth valve. Water-keys on 1st v.t.s. [3rd v.t.s. missing] and m.t.s.; fitting for music card holder. Valve type: 4 Périnet valves, bottom sprung; alignment by key on piston; latch for holding 4th valve depressed. Overall size: 647; bell 280. Sounding length: minimum 2552. Bore: mouthpipe at c 35mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 11.,7; centre of 3 valve cluster at c 278mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (1,2,3) 14.65; centre of 4th valve at c 455mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (4,) 16.85; m.t.s. at c 554mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bores 16.85 20.2; at 1276mm from bell end, c 27.3; at c 867mm from bell end, 38.6. B = 0.40. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 12.95 - 12.1. Inscribed on bell "Imperial / MADE BY / Boosey & Hawkes Ltd / London / MADE IN ENGLAND"; on side of bell "HP / 336708"; on side of first three valve casings "1", "2", "3". With original fitted hard case, covered in black leathercloth; fabric label inside lid inscribed "Mayers & Harrison Ltd. / MUSICAL INSTRUMENT MAKERS / GREAT JACKSON STREET, / MANCHESTER 15".
