DescriptionTechnical description: Rectangular English virginal with coffered lid. Compass 49 notes, C₂ - C₆ [C - c''']. Extra string and jack provided for C₂. One set of 8-ft strings.
Signature/Marks: Inscribed on the inside of the lid "PER AVRES AD ANIMVM"; on the keywell flap "MVSICA DEI DONVM". Inscribed "AH", probably the initials of the original owner.
Decoration: The decoration is unusual in having paintings of birds or flowers within small diamond-shaped panels rather than large pictures on the lid and keywell flap. |
