DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood; 3 sections; 3 ivory ferrules plus cap; silver key; oval embouchure-hole. 1 key. Keymount type: ring. Keyhead type: flat square, notched and chamfered. Repair History: Embouchure-hole may have been enlarged. Performance characteristics: [Original range written D⁴ - A⁶]. In present condition speaks with difficulty below written F♯⁴ and above written C♯⁶. Notes which do speak clearly have wayward intonation; upper and lower registers play at totally different pitches, but there is no evidence to suggest that the three sections of the piccolo belong to different instruments. Usable pitch: very difficult to determine; lower register suggests the instrument is a D piccolo in C at sounding A⁴ = c 427 Hz, upper register suggests it is a C piccolo in B♭ at sounding A⁴ = c 428 Hz. |
