DescriptionThis instrument has six keys, a curved metal head and silver-plated keys, ferrules and thumb rests. It is stamped with a unicorn head and “HY. POTTER / & CO. / 36 & 38 WEST ST. / CHARING + ROAD / LONDON”. The overall length is 595mm and the sounding length (embouchure to foot) is 670mm. Technical description: Cocus; curved metal head; 3 sections; silver-plated keys; 2 silver-plated ferrules, cap and two thumb rests; metal-lapped tenons; large, irregular-shaped oval embouchure-hole; large R2 finger-hole. L0: B♭. L1: T. L2: T. L3: PL - G. L4: G♯; long F. R1: T; C. R2: T. R3: PL - D; cross F. R4: D♯. Keymount type: rod/pillar. Keyhead type: cylinder cup. Performance characteristics: Range D⁴ - B⁶ (sounding B♭³ - G⁶). Usable pitch: Sounding A⁴ = c 455 Hz; probably intended to be played at British Army Regulation pitch (1878), A⁴ = 451.9 Hz. |
