DescriptionTechnical description: Cocus wood with german silver ferrules and keywork. Five pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, upper section, lower section, bell. Mouthpiece ebonite, long slightly bulbous barrel.Upper section: speaker liner at the front of the instrument, chimney. Additional side key for E♭₄/B♭₅. Wood between L2 and L3 recessed to fit the cross key. Lower section: rollers on R4 touchpieces; patent C sharp; thumb rest. All tenons and sockets lined with german silver. L0: T; speaker. L1: T; throat A♮. L2: T; throat A♭. L3: T; cross E♭₄/B♭₅. L4: C♯₄/G♯₅; E₃/B♮₄; F♯₃/C♯₅. R1: T; side F₄/C₆; side trill key for throat A-B♮ and B♭-C. R2: T + spectacle. R3: T + spectacle (forked B♭₃/F♮₅); cross B♭₃/F♮₅. R4: G♯₃/E♭₅; F₃/C₅. Keymount type: pillars. Keyhead type: modern. Overall size: 637; 570 to top of barrel. Bore: at C₄ hole 14.9; at F₃ hole 15.8. Stamped on upper section "S.A. CHAPPELL / 214 REGENT ST. / LONDON" (inscription also includes six pointed star); stamped on mouthpiece "J.R. LAFLEUR & SON / J.B. ALBERT"; stamped on bell: star / "S.A. CHAPPELL" / star. Repair History: Thumb rest broken out and repaired using patch in wood. Barrel shortened. Top barrel ferrule missing.
