DescriptionTechnical description: brass; with garland (saxon rim); with shank (not original). Overall size: 412mm; bell 119mm Sounding length: minimum including shank 1617mm. Lengh of shank 56mm. Bore: m.t.s. at c665mm from shank/crook receiver, tuning-slide bore 10.9mm; m.t.s. at c806mm from shank/crook receiver, tuning-slide bore 11.2mm; at c343mm from bell end, 15.7mm; at 12mm from bell end, 78mm. Signature marks: Circular maker's mark stamped on bell, c 8mm diameter, illegible. All original crooks missing: these were probably for F, E-flat, D and C; G may have been obtained without any shank or crook. Repair History: The mouthpipe has been repaired and the first 82mm of the instrument may be a replacement, possibly shorter. The present shank was commissioned by the previous owner to allow a mouthpiece to be inserted. |
