DescriptionTechnical description: Silver-plated brass; inner slides chrome plated with stockings (no spring buffers); slide lock and screwed bell lock at joint. Repair History: Resoldering on outer slide proximal ferrule and stay, and on bell stay end nearest bell. According to the firm's archives [instruments books], the instrument was model 4040, made in a batch of thirty. Overall size: 1189; bell 195. Bore: at c 30mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 10.7; expanding by 100mm from mouthpiece receiver to bore c 11.2; descending slide 12.3; ascending slide 12.3; m.t.s. bore 13.9 - 18.6. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 12.0 - 11.2. Inscribed on bell "Made by" / trademark of semiquaver on 5 line stave sweeping to "B & H" superimposed on globe / "BOOSEY & HAWKES / England / Imperial"; on bell near stay "488431". Stamped on bell at front "Made by" / trademark of semiquaver on 5 line stave sweeping to "B & H" superimposed on globe, with "R" in circle / BOOSEY & HAWKES / England / Imperial"; on bell at back "488431"). Decorative features: Counterweight in form of globe representing the world, from which streams a ribbon and a musical note. |
