DescriptionTechnical description: Rosewood with german silver ferrules and keywork. Five pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, upper section, lower section, bell. Ebonite mouthpiece with ligature. Barrel metal-lined with tuning slide. Upper section: tenon lined with german silver; zig-zag rod and axle speaker, tone-hole on the front of the instrument, chimney, speaker liner projects c 2mm into bore. Wood under touchpieces for speaker, throat A and cross keys recessed to fit them. Long tailed throat A♭. G♯ touchpiece shaped to match that of B♮ key. Lower section: Patent C sharp and rollers on L4 and R4 touchpieces. Thumb rest. All leaf springs fixed with dark pins. No metal rim to bell. L0: T; speaker. L1: T; throat A♮. L2: T; throat A♭. L3: T; cross E♭₄/B♭₅. L4: C♯₄/G♯₅; E₃/B♮₄; F♯₃/C♯₅. R1: T; side F₄/C₆; side trill key for throat A-B♮ and B♭-C. R2: T + spectacle. R3: T + spectacle (forked B♭₃/F♮₅); cross B♭₃/F♮₅. R4: G♯₃/E♭₅; F₃/C₅. Keymount type: pillars. Keyhead type: modern. Serial number: 13251. According to the firm's archives [instruments books], the instrument was made by Bloomfield. "A♮ Clarinet ex C# cocoa", Model A107. Given out 14 Apr 1898; received 30 Apr 1898; charged to Regent Street 30 Apr 1898. According to the firm's archives [Boosey & Co Stock Books], "Cocoa A Clarinet Ex C# A107"; entered in stock 19 May 1898; "To 1900". Overall size: 683; 615 to top of barrel. Bore: at C₄ hole 14.6; at F₃ hole 15.8. Stamped on upper section with trumpet and banner trade mark incorporating "BOOSEY" and "TRADEMARK" / "BOOSEY & Co / 295 REGENT STREET / LONDON / MAKERS / 13251"; on barrel and lower section "BOOSEY & Co / 13251". Stamped on bell "BOOSEY & CO / 295 REGENT STREET / LONDON". Ligature includes a "H" for "HAWKES". With german silver reed cap. Repair History: Crack in barrel. Usable pitch: A₄ = c 456 Hz. Used in pair with B♭ instrument (2290). |
