Description6 valves. Technical description: Brass with german-silver trim. Water-key on main tuning-slide; fitting for music card holder. L1: 5th valve (used in combination). L2: 6th valve (6 semitones). R1: 1st valve (2 semitones). R2: 2nd valve (1 semitone). R3: 3rd valve (3 semitones). R4: 4th valve (5 semitones). Valve type: 6 rotary valves; cork buffers on valve top caps. Repair History: Damaged in Californian earthquake while still new; poor repair in Los Angeles; effective repair by Stewart Benzie of Perth, 1998. Overall size: 1066; bell 416. Sounding length: minimum 4970. Bore: mouthpipe at c 30mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 14.85; centre of valve cluster at c 866mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (5,6,1,2,3,4) 20.4; m.t.s. at c 1143mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 20.4; m.t.s. at c 1365mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 22.55; at 2485mm from bell end, c 41.5; at c 1855mm from bell end, 58.7. B = 0.39. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 15.5 - 14.9. Inscribed on bell garland "Gebr. Alexander, Mainz" and "MADE IN W. GERMANY".
