DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood with ivory ferrules and brass keywork. Nine pieces: mouthpiece, 2 barrels (C/B), 2 upper sections (C/B), 2 middle sections for the fingers of the right hand (C/B), lower section with keys, bell. Original stamped ebony mouthpiece. Turned guide lines in upper rings. Levers for L4, tone-hole and key for R4 mounted in a fusiform swelling. Extendable L4 levers. C clarinet originally 5, now 6 keys. Clarinet stamped "E" is B♮. L0: T; speaker. L1: T; throat A♮. L2: T. L3: T. (C♯₄/G♯₅), L4: E₃/B♮₄; F♯₃/C♯₅. R1: T. R2: T. R3: T. R4: T; G♯₃/E♭₅. Keymount type: Turned wooden rings, swelling. The C uses a saddle for C♯₄/G♯₅. Keyhead type: Flat square. Condition: Some of the joints are loose. Repair History: The sixth key on the C clarinet is C♯₄/G♯₅ and presumably a later addition. Playing accessories: Reed and cord for binding. (5134) and (5135) in original green leather box lined with soft pale beige leather. Also in box one extra mouthpiece and mop. (5134) in B♭/A and (5135) in B♯ are a matched set of clarinets. The C clarinet may not be part of the set. Specific literature references: Rice 2003, pp.94-95.
