DescriptionTechnical description: Ebonite with silver ferrules and keys. Four pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, one section, bell. Simple system with vent key for R1 and R3 forked F and vent key for L1 and L3 forked B♭. Mouthpiece cocus with a long, almost parallel table. Barrel is bulbous in its lower third.Main section: straight speaker with a wide touchpiece. Speaker liner projects almost to the centre of bore.B♭ key for L3 has second touchpiece for R1 and there is a link closing the forked F vent when E♭ touchpiece for R4 is depressed. There are metal rollers on the L4 and R4 touchpieces, A touchpiece for L1, B♭ touchpiece for L3 and F touchpiece for R3. L0: T; speaker. L1: T; A♮ (also opening vent by A♭ key). L2: plate closing vent by L3; A♭. L3: T with spectacle ring; cross E♭₄/B♭₅. L4: C♯₄/G♯₅; E₃/B♮₄; F♯₃/C♯₅. R1: T; throat B♮; F₄/C♮₆; dup E♭₄/B♭₅. R2: Pl forming part of spectacle. R3: T with ring closing vent (forked B♭₃/F♮₅); cross B♭₃/F♮₅. R4: G♯₃/E♭₅; F₃/C₅. Keymount type: pillars. Keyhead type: modern. Overall size: 668; 595 to top of barrel. Bore: at C₄ hole 14.6; at F₃ hole 15.0. No inscriptions on body; stamped on mouthpiece with harp / "G. HOWARTH / MAKER / LONDON". With double clarinet case, 2 reed caps, 2 visiting cards, reed case, tuning ring, tin with phial, one reed, sand paper, etc., shared with (114). Repair History: Lower hole of forked B♭ mechanism at G♯ position blocked up and pad cup removed. Cork pads glued to touches of A♭ and duplicate B♭ keys, also one above thumb rest. Throat B♮ for R1 key broken off at pivot and touchpiece end missing. Usable pitch: Old Philharmonic pitch, A₄ = c 452 Hz. Used in pair with B♭ instrument (114).
