DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood one-piece body [with wind-cap]; silver keys and cutter; ivory studs and sole; two parallel bores in body extending to foot; the ivory sole (foot ferrule), diameter 46mm, with single hole in end, diameter 13mm, screws on; the upper bore, slightly to the player's right, has all 7 finger-holes (the top one containing an ebony plug and that for R4 doubled) plus left thumb-hole; the lower bore, slightly to the player's left, has all four key-holes plus right thumb-hole, and a twinned vent-hole 40mm from end matching the twinned finger-holes for R4; obliquely cut left thumb-hole; the cutter is actuated by a wire running through the whole length of the lower bore; a wooden piston in a central bore in the upper end cuts off the air supply to the lower bore through a hole in the lower block.
