DescriptionTechnical description: The concave, octagonal, pernambuco stick has a transitional head with an ivory headface. The stick has a red leather grip and has a shaped track for the frog. The open, bone, squared (without sharp corners) frog has a screw mechanism and an octagonal bone button with a rim. The frog has a channel to match the track in the stick.
Measurements: Weight: 54.5g. Hair length: 623mm. Balance point: 268mm. Head height: 22.35mm. Head width: 10.35mm. Face length: 24.3mm. Tip diameter: 6.9mm. Frog diameter: 8.55mm (measured at 200mm due to leather grip). Nipple range: 0.9 to 1.2mm. Period of oscillation: 1.34mm. Distance from pivot to tail: 66.6mm. Button length: 14.3mm. Ferrule width: 11.25mm. Frog + stick height: 26.35mm. Frog top length: 39.65mm.
Repair History: The frog and button do not fit will and are probably early replacements.
Inscriptions: The stick is stamped "DODD" above the frog on the thumb side; it is 2.13mm high and 11.10mm wide. the first "D" leans to left, the second "D" is straight, and the last "D" leans to the right.
The frog does not cover the back end of mortise in the stick. The headface is loose and the tip of it (the nose part) is missing. The stick is cracked from the top of the mortise on the finger side. the screw does not fit well. The frog has scratches on its heel. The frog and button do not fit will and are probably early replacements.
Associated by pre-1969 labelling with violin (349) and bow (320).
